Try these school wide collaborative mural ideas, involving every student, teacher and staff member in the public art piece. This is an all day project, so create a schedule where classes come every 10 to 15 minutes. You'll need at least 6 adult volunteers to help with the children (painting, clean up using wipees for each student AND a bucket of water with paper towels to dry off, and keeping line organized). Use nontoxic paint and be sure to paint a final grafitti cover coat to protect the final work.
Hand print mural to beautify cement planters, etc. Paint students' hand with water based acrylic paint and press in on wall. Use the same idea to create a thumbprint mural where students use their thumbprints to make their mark rather than their whole palm.
Create a Jackson Pollack style mural by letting each student create three brush strokes within a designated space. Teachers go last and can "splatter" their strokes (don't let the children do any splattering as that invites problems). Water the paint down a little so it will drip (double up on the drop cloth to protect the floor)
If your school has a kiln, have each student and staff member create a ceramic tile and hang it as one collaborative piece.
